The Cleveland Indians had a poor 2012 season, apart from a couple stand out performance the season was a step back in the progress of this young team. As a result, the Indians have made several moves designed to bring in some younger elite talent. Dbacks top Pick of 2 yrs ago, Trevor Bauer has the potential to be a front line starting pitcher. He has been routinely clocked at 95+ Miles Per Hour. Bauer was acquired in the Trade that also brought CF Drew Stubbs to the Indians and saw Shin Soo-Choo headed to the Reds. The trade was seen as a potential win for the Indians, who acquired many different pieces in the trade.
This was not the only trade in the 2012 of season. The tribe picked up a couple of valuable players in Yan Gomes and Mike Aviles from the Blue Jays in exchange for Esmil Rogers. Rogers wasn't here very long, so your not really going to miss him. Gomes has potential at both catcher and third base. He should be able to hit 20+ HR's at the Big League Level. Another huge acquisition was Nick Swisher, who will be patrolling Right Field this season. I personally don't think he is worth the money. But, he does put up consistent numbers and an excellent on base percentage. He should be able to give the dressing room, Swisher comes from a long line of Major Leaguers. His Father was a Major Leaguer as well.
The Indians have worked this off season to get younger and faster and better. They may win a few more games, .500 is a realistic chance. Beyond that it might be a tough go. Travis Hafner and Grady Sizemore have been unable to remain healthy, this has been a killer to this team for the last 3+ yrs. Small market teams can't have 30 Million in payroll tide up for this long and remain competitive.
